Fifteen-year-old Insia Malik lives in Baroda with her Muslim family: her supportive mother Najma, her brother Guddu, her paternal grandmother, and her abusive father Farookh, who is against her dream of becoming a singer. Despite her father’s disapproval, Insia records songs in a niqab to hide her identity and uploads them on YouTube as ‘Secret Superstar.’ Her videos gain instant popularity, attracting the attention of Shakti Kumar, a music director in Mumbai. However, Insia initially refuses his offer to record a song due to negative rumors about him. Farookh’s violent reaction to Insia’s poor grades and Najma’s sacrifices further complicate matters.
Insia becomes frustrated after Farookh destroys her guitar, but her passion for singing leads her to collaborate with Kumar, who helps her record a song that boosts her fame. Despite her growing success and a nomination for Best Female Singer, Insia faces familial challenges. She persuades Kumar to help her mother file for divorce, but Najma initially rejects the idea, causing tension between them. Insia learns about her mother’s struggles from her grandmother, softening her stance.
Farookh’s decision to move to Riyadh and marry Insia off to his friend’s son devastates her, leading her to delete her YouTube channel and give up on her dreams. As the family prepares to leave, Najma finally stands up to Farookh at the airport, threatening him with severe consequences if he harms them. She signs the divorce papers and leaves Farookh, taking Insia and Guddu with her. Najma then contacts Kumar, and they head to the awards ceremony where Insia has been nominated.
Although Insia does not win the award, the actual winner, Monali Thakur, graciously gives Insia her award, recognizing her talent. On stage, Kumar publicly acknowledges Insia, who reveals her true identity and dedicates the award to her mother, calling Najma the real ‘Secret Superstar’ for her unwavering support and sacrifices.
The film concludes with a message dedicated “To Mothers And Motherhood,” highlighting Najma’s role in Insia’s journey. Kumar releases a party song on YouTube dedicated to Insia, celebrating her newfound freedom and success.
