Mayhem (2017)

Derek Cho, a lawyer at Towers and Smythe Consulting (TSC), introduces the audience to the ID-7 “Red Eye” virus, which removes all inhibition and moral integrity, leading people to act on their darkest impulses, including murder. The virus is spreading globally, and Derek had found a legal loophole in an early case of ID-7-driven murder, which helped his career. Over time, he lost his moral compass and neglected his family as he climbed the corporate ladder.

One morning, Derek meets with a desperate client, Melanie Cross, who needs more time on a loan. He dismisses her and calls security. Later, Derek discovers he is being blamed for a bungled legal case involving Vanda Corp. His superior, Kara Powell, and the company’s head, John Towers, orchestrate his firing. As security escorts him out, the building is quarantined due to the ID-7 virus in the ventilation system, leading to chaos as everyone becomes infected.

Determined to reclaim his job, Derek attempts to reach Towers and the board of directors but is sent to the basement and beaten by Towers’ enforcer, Colton “The Bull” Snyder. Derek’s friend Ewan is accidentally killed by The Bull, intensifying Derek’s resolve. Derek, now imprisoned with Melanie, agrees to help her if she assists him in confronting the top executives. Together, they arm themselves and target those responsible for their predicaments.

Derek and Melanie make their way through the building, taking down security guards and confronting The Reaper, whom Melanie kills. They obtain his key card and head to Kara’s office, where they engage in a brutal fight. Kara’s assistant Meg destroys Kara’s key card in exchange for a promotion. Meg then kills Kara, allowing Derek and Melanie to proceed with their plan.

With no other options, Derek and Melanie manipulate Irene Smythe into giving them access to the top floor. After a series of betrayals and violent confrontations, they kill The Bull and Smythe. Finally, Derek confronts Towers, who offers him a partnership. Derek refuses and, with the board’s permission, kills Towers by throwing him off the building just as the quarantine is lifted.

Derek takes Towers’ job but immediately quits after extending Melanie’s loan. He and Melanie are later seen painting together. Derek advises the audience to take control of their lives before it’s too late, underscoring his message with a shot of Towers’ death.
