Years after the apocalypse, Australia has become a radioactive wasteland. The Green Place of Many Mothers is one of the few remaining spots with fresh water and agriculture. Raiders discover it while Furiosa and Valkyrie are picking peaches. Furiosa tries to sabotage their motorcycles but is captured and taken to Dementus, leader of the Biker Horde.

Mary, Furiosa’s mother, follows the raiders to their camp, killing most of them. Furiosa mortally wounds one raider who is about to reveal the Green Place’s location. Mary rescues Furiosa but is soon captured by Dementus, who forces Furiosa to witness her mother’s crucifixion. Dementus, haunted by his family’s death, adopts Furiosa as his daughter, hoping she will lead him to the Green Place.

Dementus later attacks the Citadel, another settlement with fresh water, but is repelled by Immortan Joe’s War Boys. He then uses a Trojan Horse strategy to take over Gastown, an oil refinery vital to the Citadel. During peace talks, Joe acknowledges Dementus’s control over Gastown in exchange for supplies, Furiosa, and a physician. Joe imprisons Furiosa with his “wives” in a vault. After Joe’s son, Rictus, shows interest in her, Furiosa devises an escape plan, using a wig made from her hair to slip away.

Disguised as a mute teenager, Furiosa climbs the ranks among Joe’s men over the next decade. She helps build the War Rig, a heavily armed vehicle. Planning to escape, she hides on the Rig during a supply run. The Octoboss, Dementus’s rogue lieutenant, attacks, killing the crew and destroying Furiosa’s motorcycle. Furiosa and Jack fight off the attackers, and though Jack initially thwarts her escape, he sees her potential and trains her as his second-in-command.

Joe plans to attack Gastown, now in disarray under Dementus’s rule, and orders Furiosa and Jack to collect weapons from the Bullet Farm. Dementus ambushes them, and Furiosa is injured. Dementus captures and tortures Jack to death. Furiosa escapes by severing her injured arm and sacrificing her star map. She returns to the Citadel, where she and Joe’s aide, The People Eater, devise a strategy to counter Dementus’s trap. Dementus is lured into a trap at the Citadel, and the War Boys defeat his Horde in a prolonged battle.

With her path home lost, Furiosa shaves her head, replaces her arm with a mechanical prosthetic, and pursues Dementus. After a lengthy chase, she captures him and imprisons him at the Citadel. Using his body as fertilizer, she grows a peach tree from her mother’s seed. Joe promotes Furiosa to “Imperator” and assigns her a new War Rig. She reunites with Joe’s former wives, who now hide in her Rig for another supply run.
