In 1956, JB Peña and his wife relocated to the small town of Del Rio, TX, primarily for JB’s new job as a school superintendent, but also to fulfill his dream of joining the prestigious, all-white Del Rio Country Club. JB is devastated when he is rejected from the club due to his skin color. His disappointment soon turns to inspiration when he meets a group of young Latino golf caddies who work at the country club. JB is impressed by the handmade course the boys built in the countryside to teach themselves golf.
With minimal experience and even fewer resources, JB convinces the boys to form their own high school golf team. Together, they embark on a journey that teaches them that making history requires more than just golf skills. They face numerous challenges and prejudices but are driven by determination and the support of their community.
Inspired by their coach’s guidance and their own perseverance, the boys realize that their journey is about much more than just the game of golf. It becomes a powerful story of overcoming adversity, breaking barriers, and making a lasting impact. Based on Mustang Miracle by Humberto G. Garcia, this tale highlights the importance of resilience, unity, and the pursuit of dreams against all odds.
