Dishoom (2016)

During a cricket tournament in the Middle East, India’s top cricketer, Viraj Sharma, goes missing 48 hours before the final match against Pakistan. The Indian authorities receive a video of an unknown man claiming to have kidnapped Viraj and warning them not to cancel the match. To avoid media outrage, Gayatri Shubha Mishra, the External Affairs Minister of India, sends special task force officer Kabir Shergill to the UAE for a 36-hour manhunt. Kabir, a no-nonsense cop, teams up with rookie Indo-Emirati police officer Junaid Ansari, who has good local knowledge. They begin their investigation with CCTV footage showing Viraj leaving with a local girl, Samira Dalal, who took him to a party.

After several dead ends, Kabir and Junaid get a breakthrough by tracking Viraj’s cellphone to a pickpocket, Ishika, who claims to have stolen it from a stranger. They capture the person from the video, discovering he is a struggling actor used by the real kidnapper, a cricket bookie named Wagah. Wagah and his assistant, Altaf, abducted Viraj and offered him money to underplay in the final match. When the deal fell through, they kidnapped him until the match was over. Kabir, Junaid, and Ishika go to an underground club to find Altaf. They manage to capture him, but a sniper kills him before they get any useful information. Wagah then contacts Kabir, threatening Viraj’s family and ordering them to stop their search.

Despite being taken off the case, Kabir and Junaid continue their investigation. They get a clue through the camera on Bradman, Viraj’s dog, revealing that Wagah has hidden Viraj in a yacht near the team’s hotel. They reach the yacht but find Viraj tied to a time bomb. Kabir negotiates with Wagah, offering him money to stop the bomb. Wagah takes the money but refuses to stop the bomb. However, Kabir and Junaid manage to save Viraj by dislocating his shoulder and jumping into the water just before the blast.

As the match begins, Wagah expects it to proceed without Viraj, but to his shock, Viraj walks onto the field, ready to play. Kabir and Junaid had successfully saved him, and their plan to foil Wagah’s scheme worked. Wagah tries to escape but is apprehended by the duo. With the case solved, Kabir develops feelings for Ishika, and they return to India together.

Meanwhile, Junaid regains his duty and receives a marriage proposal from an Indian girl, Muskaan. He also flies to India to meet her, marking a new chapter in his life after successfully solving his first major case.
