24-year-old Zara, personal assistant to self-absorbed Hollywood star Chris Cole, is tired of being underappreciated. She often helps him handle breakups and offers him advice, which he ignores. When Chris changes the gate code on her while she’s talking to a writer, Zara quits.
Soon after, Chris goes to Zara’s house to offer her an assistant producer position, missing her help. Instead, he meets her widowed mother Brooke and explains his script issues. As they talk, they connect and end up in bed together, which Zara discovers upon returning.
Chris assures Zara it won’t happen again, so she returns to work for him. However, he invites Brooke to dinner, and they get intimate once more. Zara then learns that Chris has hired Brooke as his new writer and confronts them at a gala. Brooke, happy with Chris, dismisses Zara’s concerns about his history of hurting fans he dates.
During a family Christmas visit to Brooke’s mother-in-law Leila’s house, Zara overhears Brooke confessing her marital issues before her husband’s death. Zara also finds diamond earrings in Chris’s bag, suspecting he’s planning another breakup.
At home, Zara accuses Chris of his usual behavior, prompting Brooke to ask him to leave. Later, Chris confides in Zara, revealing his doubts about his role and clarifying the earrings were a forgotten gift. Zara then tells Brooke she was wrong about Chris, but Brooke refuses to listen.
Zara arranges a meeting between her, Chris, and Brooke at the supermarket, where she apologizes for her mistake. Chris and Brooke reconcile, and a year later, their relationship is still going strong.
